Games That Nobody Plays Anymore: Hitman Bloody Money

Nathan Hardisty from Platformnation: Ive been writing this series for a long while now. A year and a bit. I think Ive gone through all the horrid games that Ive encountered, every back-alley delight and everything in-between. Ive shown some of my own little treasures but now its time to get personal. From this game forth, all Games That Blah Blah will have had some significance over my life, and I wish to communicate that. It doesnt necessarily every game Ill be doing will be good, but this will be a quick change of pace. Its to liven up the series and perhaps end it on a high note

Dimple Entertainment Closes Their Doors

Siliconera writes: Dimple Entertainment is ending their stint as a video game publisher. A message written by Takashi Kamio, President, thanked fans for their loyalty and announced the company will be closed on August 31. Loveroot Zero, released this past April for the PlayStation 2, will be Dimple Entertainments last the game. Dimple is probably best known for Kumatanchi, a Vanillaware developed Nintendo DS game where players care for a bear girl. Marsh: The Mysterious English Eating Animal, a cutesy virtual pet meets English training game, and the touch screen tapping Pinky Street games were some of Dimples other works.

Japan's Dragon Quest fever (Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King)

31 Jul 2010 at 12:00am

So, Dragon Quest. Big in Japan, eh? That’s what they say. Or rather, that’s what their figures say. Shifting an eye-watering 2.3 million copies in its first week on sale, Dragon Quest IX: Sentinels of the Starry Skies is undoubtedly a big financial cheese. Figures don’t capture the magic, however. Leave numbers to do the talking and they tell a sanitized tale. Emphasizing chart positions and share prices, they certainly don’t mention the Dragon Quest cafe where gamers gather to scarf on culinary effigies of their favorite monsters.

No, to tell the true story of Dragon Quest, you have to live Dragon Quest. And so it was that we came to walk the streets of Tokyo. Our mission: spend four days in the heart of Questing territory to assess the true impact of Dragon Quest IX. And, ideally, politely eat everything put in front of us without pulling an ‘I’m going to be sick’ face.

Armed with a DS, a fistful of yen and not a word of Japanese known, we had four days to get to the heart of Quest-mania… ...

Gaming’s most devastating genital attacks (PlayStation 2)

31 Jul 2010 at 12:00am

If movies, television and America’s Funniest Home Videos have taught us anything, it’s that nothing in this world is funnier than a man doubling over and clutching at his junk in agony and confusion. It’s preferable if this is immediately after his crotch has been nailed with flying sports equipment, a foot or a dog’s teeth, but we’re not really picky so long as someone lets loose a howl of pain and maybe falls over... ...

Game music of the day: ICO (ICO)

30 Jul 2010 at 12:00am

Truly one of the PS2's most brilliant titles, ICO has gone on to become one of the most adored adventure games of all time. The heady puzzles, dreamlike visuals and tangible bond between cursed Ico and the ghostly Yorda would be standout features in any other game - to have them all in one, plus a stirring, subdued soundtrack, is a once-in-a-generation event.

Well, Shadow of the Colossus did it too. But ICO's music towers over even the mightiest mobile monolith... ...
